Why You Should Hire Assistants from the US – or Local for That Matter

I get emails daily from websites in India and other areas far far away that want to offer me extremely affordable assistance with my business.

I have nothing against the concept of VA’s or virtual help of any sort. I love that I get to work from home, remotely, the majority of the time.

What I do have a problem with in my own business is paying too little and taking potential jobs away from others in my own neck of the woods.

First off, let me say, I am thrilled that other countries are doing well in the online channel. However, I don’t want to hire overseas. Ever. I know that it may not be the best business decision from a cost perspective, however I find it to be a real problem.

The United States of America has been in a depression / recession for years. I want to help, not hinder, the unemployment rate of my country when I choose to hire people to work for my organization. For me, and this is a very personal choice, it doesn’t feel ethical or right to ship jobs overseas for dirt cheap.

Global teams may be great for big business, but for me and my business, I’ll do my part to shop local, hire local and try to add to my local economy as best as I can.
